Marathon Monday

WEEK 2 RESULTS
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 4.8km - Ran 5km
Wednesday: 4.8km - No Run
Thursday: 4.8km - No Run
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Cross Train - Ran 10.5km no Cross Train
Sunday: 11.2km - Ran 11.5km
Total: 24km - Ran 27km

I am pretty happy with this weeks effort considering I was sick Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Thinking I was better, I laced up Saturday morning ready to smash 10km to catch up, I ran 10.5km but holey moley it hurt. It hurt like it's never hurt before. I got a high stitch about 4km in and it stayed the entire rest of my run. My uncle always tells me to "RUN THROUGH THE PAIN" so that is exactly what I did!!

After being sick I decided it wouldn't hurt to add some extra supplements to my diet. This is my latest addition! Can't hurt right??

So let's get Week 3 started now that I am feeling much better.
WEEK 3
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 4.8km
Wednesday: 6.4km
Thursday: 4.8km
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Cross Train
Sunday: 8km
Total: 24km

Marathon Monday

I survived my the first week!

Which sounds easy BUT it's week 2 of school holidays here in Adelaide and also the week my older 2 boys are off at their dads. So I have Ethan home with me all alone and that makes it a touch harder to keep him occupied while I run.

And it's been raining! Now I love running in the rain but Ethan doesn't love sitting in the rain watching me run!!

Thank goodness for my mum and her treadmill!!!

I have done my 3 week day runs on my mum's treadmill so that Ethan can watch telly while I run!

Jumping from 4.8km to 9.6km was as hard as it sounded! But I guess I better get used to it as it's only gonna get harder!!! Bring it on I say!!

I feel really good about this week and am still riding high on the excitement of it all.

WEEK 1 RESULTS
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 4.8km - Ran 5km
Wednesday: 4.8km - Ran 5km
Thursday: 4.8km - Ran 5km
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Cross Train - 20 min Stairs climb
Sunday: 9.6km - Ran 10km
Total: 24km - Ran 25km

WEEK 2
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 4.8km
Wednesday: 4.8km
Thursday: 4.8km
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Cross Train
Sunday: 11.2km
Total: 25.6km

One thing that did bother me was the "not quite whole kilometres", I can't wrap my head around the running 4.8km instead of 5km, so I think I will be rounded them up to the closest half kilometre.

The return of Marathon Monday!!!!

I am VERY excited to report that I am over my injury and Marathon Monday officially resumes today!

So here goes:

WEEK 1
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 4.8km
Wednesday 4.8km
Thursday: 4.8km
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Cross Train
Sunday: 9.6km
Total: 24km

I am not sure what the cross training will be each week but it will probably be changed up with Fartlek and Interval training and some Mt Lofty runs or walks.

I also went to Rebel sports on the weekend and had a chat with one of thier helpful staff and now have this fabulous drink to give me a little help! Hopefully the extra magnesium will help my cramp prone legs!

So the official date of the Marathon is Sunday August 25th! Sounds so far but really isn't!!!

Wish me luck, hopefully this time around I can stay injury free and make it to the finish line!!!!

I am linking up with Running Bloggers for the very first time.
I am hoping i have done my link up properly!!! (If not please let me know!)

Marathon Monday - Week 11

I am very excited that I only have two weeks to go of until I reach my 1st goal!!!

The goal for last week was to run 37km and I was only 1km short. Which I thought was pretty good considering Friday, Saturday and Sunday were all above 30 degrees.

This weeks runs will have to either happening the morning or in the early evening as this week the forcast is all days above 30 degrees and thursday we are expecting 39!!!! With night only getting down to 15 degrees.

The aim for this week is to not die of dehyration and run 38km. Fingers crossed people.

Marathon Monday - Week 10

Why hello there.

Week 10 of first 12 weeks and I am happy to report that I ran 36km.

With only 2 weeks left until I reach my first goal I am very proud of myself.

I am however really struggling to understand how I haven't lost any weight and had my Baba ask me if I was pregnant the other day. So while I am feeling really good about how my running is going I am getting rather depressed about the fact that I apparently now look pregnant!! :( (Which I'm not btw)

This week's running goal is a total of 37km, so let's get running.

Marathon Monday - Week 8 & 9

I am very happy to report that after the 32.2kms I ran last week my leg is feeling fantastic.

Last weeks goal was 32.2km and I am excited to say I ran a total of 33km.

This week in the training program is supposed to include a 10km race on Sunday instead of the long run so the total kilometres this week is only 30.5km, but since there aren't any on this weekend in Adelaide I will just follow the program and run my own little race against myself and try to beat my PB for the 10km I ran a few weeks ago.

Week 9 for me was not so successful. I thought that cause my husband had the week off that he would take the kids to school and I could go out for my run first thing but I think that happened once. I actually barely ran last week, which I am really disappointed about. The aim of week 10 is to stick to my plan and hopefully run a few extra kilometers to make up for the lack of running last week.

Week 10's goal is 35.3km so fingers crossed that I can run them all.

Have a lovely week everyone.

Marathon Monday - Week 7

Hello again, Today's Marathon Monday will be short and sweet.

I only ran a total of 12.5km last week as my leg was still playing up a little. So I spent most of the week resting it. I am fairly sure that it is back to normal now after the rest but we will know for sure after the week of full running.

So this week there is a total of 32.2km to run and I am looking forward to getting back into it. Let's hope my leg holds up and all it needed was a little rest. Fingers crossed.

See you all soon

Marathon Monday - Week 6

Good Morning Everyone, hope you have all had a wonderful week with lots of moving!

I am very excited to be starting week 7! There are a couple of reasons, the first being that week 7 means that I am official half way through the 12 weeks of my Half Marathon training!! Secondly, because it is the second of my goals!

Week 6 went well but could have been better. I did all the km's for the week but I have had a really sore leg and am taking an extra rest day this week to try to rest it a little. If it's still not right by the end of the this week a trip to the doctors is definately on the cards.

Week 7 sees the distances increase again. So this week will be a total of 30.7km with the long run on Sunday being 11.5km.

So I hope you all have a great week and get outside and get moving!

Marathon Monday - Week 5

Well hello there......

I made it through my run yesterday and I feel amazing!!!! I am quite proud of myself! 5 weeks of running and I finished my first 10km race!! WOW!!!

I did however, come to realise just how much work I still have left to do if I am going to run in a half marathon event. But it has just made me so much more excited and determined to work hard to do it and to do it well.

Unfortunately, these are the only photos I have as I went to the race by myself and had no one to take photos of me.

My running program for this week only has a total of 21km, so from here on out I plan on sticking to the training exactly!!!

I hope everyone have a great week!! Don't forget to get outside and move!!!

Marathon Monday - Week 4

Happy Monday Everyone!

I am very excited because this week is my first race. Sunday I will run 10km, it's the first of my goals. I am very excited and nervous to be at this point already!!

Last week I barely ran at all beacuse my husband was away for the week, I am feeeling even more nervous as I don't think I have had the ideal lead up to my first official run.

So this week I don't have a plan. I am just going to run Tues-Fri and have Saturday as a rest day before Sunday!! Ok so that sounded like a plan didn't it??

So wish me luck and if your in Adelaide and feel like a drive, see you at McLaren Vale!!

Marathon Monday - Week 3

Sorry this is a day late but yesterday was a public holiday here in Adelaide and I spent the morning with my oldest son, my best friend and her daughter at Ikea, then in the afternoon we took all the kids to the park as the weather was beautiful.
ANYWAY......
I am feeling fantastic! Running this time around has been great. Although I haven't been loosing as much weight as quick as I'd hoped! :(

So Week 3 went better than I had expected. I was kinda dreading the longer distances this week.
I found that I felt really good for the first 2.5km then the middle 2 ish I struggled then felt great in the last part of the runs. I sat down and looked over the runs and realised those middle kilometres that I struggled was when I was running uphill. So I am adding some leg strength exercises to my running. I know if I keep running up hill it will get easier and my legs will get stronger but it can't hurt to add some strength work, right???

So here is how week 3 went:
Week 3 recap
22.4km running
40min cross training (walking)

I ran a total of 23km
And walked for the 40min cross train (I will eventually end up in the pool)

I don't think I mentioned that my training runs in two week cycles, so I do the same runs and rest days for two weeks and then it goes up.

Week 4:
22.4km running
40min cross train (fingers crossed for a swim)

I think this week will be especially difficult as my husband and brother in law (who I normally get to watch the kids while I head out for a run) are away for the week.

BUT I have to find a way to get out for my runs as I have registered for the McLaren Vale Event at which I will be running 10km. This is the first mini goal I have in the lead up to the half marathon.

See you all next week

Marathon Monday - Week 2

I can't believe I have survived another week!!! Amd I am feeling fantastic!!

I been motivating myself with a few goals and rewards! Rewards, oh how I love rewards!!!! But who doesn't right??
My first goal is to make it half way through this 12 weeks program, so once I get to the end of Week 6 I am going to go out and buy some new running clothes! That makes me very excited!!!!

Ok so who wants to know how week 2 went??

Week 2
19.2km running
30min cross train (swimming)

I ran a total of 20.1km this week! YAY me!!
I walked again for my 30 min cross train!

So I am very happy to be a little bit further on than I had expected, but it's only going to get harder from here. But hey BRING. IT. ON!

Week 3
22.4 km running
40 min cross train (I am hoping to go swimming but I  think it will be a walk)
I am swapping my long run from Sunday to Saturday as Saturday is the AFL grand final I am planning on having a few drinks, so I am going to do my run so it's done and sunday I will go for a walk!

Logical I know!!!

When I get to my first weight lose goal of 5kg I will let you know!! Should be too far away now!

Bye for now.

Marathon Monday - Week 1 **AGAIN**

I recently bought the book "Marathon - The Ultimate Training Guide" by Hal Higdon, which has given me the motivation, advice and knowledge I needed to give this Marathon a real shot!

Firstly I have started doing something that I should have been doing and something that I make sure my children do before they leave for school each day. It's something simple but has really been making such a big difference.

Eating Breakfast - I know I can hear the gasps, I always make excuses and never have the time but I have been getting up half an hour earlier than normal and making sure I have something.

In the book it has some training schedules so I chose to start with the Half Marathon Novice, this time I'm not going to be writing on here each day's kilometres but the weeks total kilometres.

So let's get started:

Last week was Week 1:
The total km's for the week was 19.2km and 30mins cross training.

I am very pleased to say that I made it through week 1 having completed the 19.2km and the cross training.

For the 30 minutes cross training I went for a 30 minute walk

Week 2
19.2km running
30 min cross train (swimming)

I am also hoping to loose some weight with all this training, so I guess we will see how that goes!

Bye for now

Marathon Monday - Week 5

Can I rewind and pretend last week didn't happen???? Oh wait it didn't!!

I was really sik last week and didn't get out of the house for 1 run!! Not 1! I know, I know......totally disappointing but I have a really good excuse I promise! I had a sinus infection and my whole head ached and felt like it was going to explode! Cold air just seemed to make it worse. So no running from me last week.

So this weeks plan will be exactly what I had planned last week! Funny that!!
I am feeling much better, health wise and am using my running this week as a plan to vent my frustrations and clear my head!! I need it already!!!

Week 5 Plan:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 7.5km
Wednesday: 8.5km
Thursday: 10km
Friday: 11km
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: 12km
Total: 49km

Thanks for stopping by........I'd love to hear about everyone elses week too

Marathon Monday - Week 3

Well hello there, great to see you back!!

Week Two really sucked! Sorry but it did!!!

I was going well with the running then on Thursday morning I got the headache from hell. The entire left side of my head and face were so sore. It got so bad that the vision from my left eye was blurry!! Panadol and Nurofen weren't helping so I toddled off to the chemist thursday night and grabbed soemthing a little stronger. This helped a little but not much really. Anyway, this lovely headache hung around until saturday afternoon.

So I didn't run from Wednesday night!!! See this week really did suck!

Week 2 recap:
Monday: Rest - Ran: 4km
Tuesday: 5km - Ran: 3km
Wednesday 5km - Ran: 3km & 5km
Thursday: 5km
Friday: 6km
Saturday: 6km
Sunday: 7km
Total: 34km Ran:15km

So I am going to pretend last week never happened and try to do the runs I had planned last week, this week.
Week 3 Plan:
Monday: 5km
Tuesday: 6km
Wednesday: 6km
Thursday: 7km
Friday: 8km
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: 7.5km
Total: 39.5km

Sunday is Mother's Day and the kids and I will be participating in the Mother's Day Classic at Elder Park. Tate and I are running the 7.5km, Damon is running/walking the 4.5km and my Mum and Ethan are walking the 4.5km. My rest day this week will be saturday so that I am all rested for the Mother's Day Classic.

Anyone else participating in the Mother's Day Classic??

Marathon Monday - Week 2

Hello Hello.....I'm back! A week late I know BUT my laptop DIED!!!! Lucky for me my husband is a computer fixer from way back and when he found some spare time he fixed it for me and now I'm BACK baby!!
So Week 1 went along really well, I am at the moment really enjoying my running and getting alot out of it!!

Having said that Week 1 didn't go exactly as planned and after chatting to friends about it, I worked out why!

I thought I was doing wonderfully being able to run 5km easy and thought why wouldn't I be able to up it?!?!

Well I didn't consider that fact that ALL of my running up until this point had been laps of the 400 metre running track at the Little Athletics Club at the end of our street. It's perfectly flat and nice and grassy and easy.

I then this week I took to road running! Then wondered why I was finiding it so difficult!!! The roads around my house are NOT flat, the hills aren't overly huge but when you are used to running on a flat soft track, the roads really take thier toll.

So I have adjusted my week 2 program to accomodate this and give my body a chance to adjust!!

So here is my Week 1 results:
                                                 Monday: 4km                      Ran: 4km
                                                 Tuesday: Rest                      Rest
                                                Wednesday: 5km                  Ran: 4km
                                                 Thursday: 6km                     Ran: 2km
                                                 Friday: 6km                          Ran: 4km
                                                 Saturday: 7km                      Ran: 5.37km
                                                 Sunday: Rest                        Rest

So taking into account how week 1 went here is my plan for Week 2:

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 5km
Wednesday: 5km
Thursday: 5km
Friday: 6km
Saturday: 6km
Sunday: 7km

I am VERY much looking forward to this weeks runs and can't wait to tell you all about them next Monday!!

I thought I would help my training along and have decided to not drink ANY alcohol for the month of May! Wish me luck.

Marathon Monday - Week 1 - Let the fun begin

I am very excited to finally be back to seriously training for the 2013 Adelaide Marathon!

About a month ago I started running again and am now quite confidently running at least 5km each morning!
The only real problem I am having is my leg strength! So I saw a physio (for an unrelated back issue) and she told me some really easy exercises that I can do to help this little problem. So I do these exercises each morning after my run.

So here's how Marathon Monday is going to work.

I am going to put up each week my running schedule for the coming week and a review of how the previous week went compared to what I wanted to achieve. This time I am quite prepared for the fact that some weeks won't be what I am hoping for and some weeks will be better.

So here goes:
WEEK 1
MONDAY: 4km
TUESDAY: Rest
WEDNESDAY: 5km
THURSDAY: 6km
FRIDAY: 6km
SATURDAY: 7km
SUNDAY: Rest

Normally Sunday's will be my long run day but I have a wedding to go to this weekend so I have swapped it around a little.

So I will be back here next monday to tell you all about how I went and how I felt! If you have any tips or advice for me along the way I would love for you to share it with me!!
