Marathon Monday - Week 7

Hello again, Today's Marathon Monday will be short and sweet.

I only ran a total of 12.5km last week as my leg was still playing up a little. So I spent most of the week resting it. I am fairly sure that it is back to normal now after the rest but we will know for sure after the week of full running.

So this week there is a total of 32.2km to run and I am looking forward to getting back into it. Let's hope my leg holds up and all it needed was a little rest. Fingers crossed.

See you all soon

Marathon Monday - Week 6

Good Morning Everyone, hope you have all had a wonderful week with lots of moving!

I am very excited to be starting week 7! There are a couple of reasons, the first being that week 7 means that I am official half way through the 12 weeks of my Half Marathon training!! Secondly, because it is the second of my goals!

Week 6 went well but could have been better. I did all the km's for the week but I have had a really sore leg and am taking an extra rest day this week to try to rest it a little. If it's still not right by the end of the this week a trip to the doctors is definately on the cards.

Week 7 sees the distances increase again. So this week will be a total of 30.7km with the long run on Sunday being 11.5km.

So I hope you all have a great week and get outside and get moving!

Marathon Monday - Week 5

Well hello there......

I made it through my run yesterday and I feel amazing!!!! I am quite proud of myself! 5 weeks of running and I finished my first 10km race!! WOW!!!

I did however, come to realise just how much work I still have left to do if I am going to run in a half marathon event. But it has just made me so much more excited and determined to work hard to do it and to do it well.

Unfortunately, these are the only photos I have as I went to the race by myself and had no one to take photos of me.

My running program for this week only has a total of 21km, so from here on out I plan on sticking to the training exactly!!!

I hope everyone have a great week!! Don't forget to get outside and move!!!

Marathon Monday - Week 4

Happy Monday Everyone!

I am very excited because this week is my first race. Sunday I will run 10km, it's the first of my goals. I am very excited and nervous to be at this point already!!

Last week I barely ran at all beacuse my husband was away for the week, I am feeeling even more nervous as I don't think I have had the ideal lead up to my first official run.

So this week I don't have a plan. I am just going to run Tues-Fri and have Saturday as a rest day before Sunday!! Ok so that sounded like a plan didn't it??

So wish me luck and if your in Adelaide and feel like a drive, see you at McLaren Vale!!

I am freaking out!!!

I recieved an envelope in the mail yesterday and I was excited and scared to death at the same time!

It was my race number for the McLaren Vale event that I had registered for.

My freaking out may be compounded by the fact that my husband is away for the week and when he's away I don't sleep properly and him being away means it's just me and the kids and it's school holidays so there has been NO running!

I know, NO running in a week when I really need to be running as many kilometres as possible!

So I am freaking out.

I know shouldn't be, I know I have this covered but I'm still freaking out!

I have run further than 10km before, I have trained really hard up until this week, I am fitter than I expected to be by now and I have the support of my husband and the boys. But still I freak out!

All I can think about is running twice a day next week when the kids go back to school but my better judgement tells me that over training before an event is a really bad move, your supposed to taper off not double your running.

The other reason I think I am so nervous and freaking out so much is that this is the first of my mini goals on the way to THE big one.....The Marathon......

I have only been training properly for about a month so I wasn't expecting to get to this first goal quite so soon but having said that the fact I am at here so soon gives me a new confidence that I can actually do this (the marathon) and it's not going to beat me!

So enough ranting for one day, I'm off to get ready to take these kids to St Kilda playground for the day.

It's a beautiful day here, hope you enjoy your day as much as we are going to!!

Marathon Monday - Week 3

Sorry this is a day late but yesterday was a public holiday here in Adelaide and I spent the morning with my oldest son, my best friend and her daughter at Ikea, then in the afternoon we took all the kids to the park as the weather was beautiful.
ANYWAY......
I am feeling fantastic! Running this time around has been great. Although I haven't been loosing as much weight as quick as I'd hoped! :(

So Week 3 went better than I had expected. I was kinda dreading the longer distances this week.
I found that I felt really good for the first 2.5km then the middle 2 ish I struggled then felt great in the last part of the runs. I sat down and looked over the runs and realised those middle kilometres that I struggled was when I was running uphill. So I am adding some leg strength exercises to my running. I know if I keep running up hill it will get easier and my legs will get stronger but it can't hurt to add some strength work, right???

So here is how week 3 went:
Week 3 recap
22.4km running
40min cross training (walking)

I ran a total of 23km
And walked for the 40min cross train (I will eventually end up in the pool)

I don't think I mentioned that my training runs in two week cycles, so I do the same runs and rest days for two weeks and then it goes up.

Week 4:
22.4km running
40min cross train (fingers crossed for a swim)

I think this week will be especially difficult as my husband and brother in law (who I normally get to watch the kids while I head out for a run) are away for the week.

BUT I have to find a way to get out for my runs as I have registered for the McLaren Vale Event at which I will be running 10km. This is the first mini goal I have in the lead up to the half marathon.

See you all next week
